Join me in supporting Solano Winds!

In 1994, just after he announced his retirement as Director of Bands at the University of California, Berkeley, Bob Briggs and I chatted about starting a community band in Fairfield. Solano Winds held its first rehearsal in October 1995, and has been going strong ever since.

Bob led the group until his passing in 2008, and then I took the podium for seventeen seasons. We've just started our 31st season with our new Music Director, Dr. Roger Wu Fu, and his premiere performances are right around the corner!

As the first and only community concert band in Solano County, Solano Winds has been sharing high quality wind band repertoire for 30 years. Solano Winds performs concerts at theaters in Fairfield and Vacaville, as well as in retirement communities, in public libraries and schools, and for special events. Our full band and small ensembles include musicians from high school students to retirees, from military personnel to school teachers.

We give tickets to local public school band students to inspire them to continue playing music. Some of these students even join our band when they reach high school! The Solano Winds Scholarship Fund supports graduating high school students who want to pursue a career in music. Since 2005, Solano Winds has awarded scholarships to 18 students.
