PLTI Empowers Parents to Take Action for Community Change
The Parent Leadership Training Institute (PLTI) has officially launched in Vallejo, and we are asking for your support to help sustain this program in both Vallejo and Fairfield so that more parents and caregivers across Solano County can participate.
PLTI of Solano has been serving families in Fairfield for over a decade, equipping adults with the tools and confidence to lead and advocate in their communities. With the program now active in Vallejo, we are expanding access so that even more residents can take part in this opportunity close to home.
PLTI is a free 20-week leadership and civic engagement program for parents, caregivers, and community members who care deeply about children and families. It is not a parenting class. It is a space where adults learn how decisions are made in their community, how to advocate effectively, and how to turn concerns into meaningful action.
Participants gain practical skills such as public speaking, understanding local government, engaging with decision makers, and building community partnerships. Just as important, they build relationships with other adults who are committed to improving outcomes for children and families throughout Solano County.
Accessible for Everyone
We are committed to removing barriers so that any adult who wants to participate can do so. PLTI in Vallejo will include:
100% tuition-free leadership training
Evening classes designed for working adults and parents
Free childcare
Free dinner for participants
Spanish translation services
Fully accessible venues
We believe leadership development should not depend on income, schedule, or language access.
Impact That Lasts
PLTI does not end after 20 weeks. It is often just the beginning.
Since 2015, PLTI graduates have led impactful projects that strengthen families and communities across Solano County. From youth empowerment to mental health, education access, and immigrant rights, alumni are driving real and lasting change.
The leaders above are among those graduates, who move forward with their own community projects. They join advisory groups, serve on boards, collaborate with schools and city leaders, and advocate for policies that affect children and families. Many remain connected as part of a growing network of leaders across Solano County, continuing to support and uplift one another.
As one participant shared:
"PLTI helped me to improve speaking in public, to trust myself and to open my eyes that I can make a difference in my community. I can make a difference in at least one person's life."
That is the kind of leadership we hope to grow here in Vallejo.
