Solano RCD was formed in 1956 to provide flood protection and work with farmers on conserving soil and water resources. We now work on a wide variety of projects, including a focus on environmental education and outreach, habitat restoration and conservation, agriculture and water, and wildfire prevention and post-fire recovery.
🌿 Outdoor Learning That Inspires Stewardship
For over 20 years, Solano RCD Education staff have been connecting students with the natural world through hands-on, outdoor learning experiences. Our programs take students beyond the classroom to explore local open spaces, engage with their environment, and discover what it means to care for our water resources and ecosystems. Solano RCD offers a wide variety of environmental education programs, our two keystone programs being Watershed Explorers and the Suisun Marsh Program. Watershed Explorers brings 3rd grade students to local outdoor spaces in their cities to learn about their watershed. The Suisun Marsh Program brings 6th grade students to the Rush Ranch Open Space at the Suisun Marsh to participate in hands-on science while learning about the importance of the Marsh to Solano County.
🌎 Why Outdoor Learning Matters
Today’s youth are growing up in a world shaped by the effects of climate change. Building resilience—both personal and collective—starts with meaningful connections to nature. Our programs are designed to spark curiosity, foster wonder, and empower students to take action, while giving them access to outdoor spaces right in their communities.
🌱 Why We Need Your Support
Solano RCD's Environmental Education Program is primarily funded by local partners. We have recently lost a significant source of funding and need your help! Every dollar donated during Live Solano-Give Solano will go toward our education program's mission of getting kids outside. We need your help to ensure Solano County students can continue to learn and have access to nature through our programming. Every little bit counts!
