About Solano Family & Children’s Services

Every child deserves a strong start. At Solano Family & Children’s Services (SFCS), we help make that possible by connecting families and child care providers to resources that support early learning, development, and long-term success.

Since 1978, we have offered child care referrals, subsidized child care, nutrition and health education, and access to essential services and resources. Most of our services are offered at no cost to the public.

Mission:

Creating connections for families and child care providers to support the healthy development of children for a thriving community.

Vision:

All Solano County families have access to high-quality child care and supportive services.

Core Services:

Child Care Referrals: We help Solano County parents/guardians find child care that fits their schedule, needs, and values, at no cost to them.

Subsidized Child Care Program: We help parents/guardians pay for child care so they can work, go to school, look for work, or participate in other qualifying activities. Income eligibility applies in most cases, but not all. CalWORKs Cash Aid recipients may be immediately eligible.

Provider Licensing & Training: We guide individuals through the licensing process and offer training, support, and networking for child care providers, at no cost.

Child Care Food Program (CACFP): We reimburse participating providers for serving healthy meals and snacks to children in their care.

Help Me Grow Solano: We connect parents/guardians with young children to developmental screenings, health care, mental health support, parenting programs, and more.

The Need

All children in Solano County from 2 months to 5 years of age can benefit from receiving developmental screenings to ensure healthy development and school readiness. Our Help Me Grow program has screened over 2,400 children since 2020, supporting parents in understanding what to expect at each developmental stage and connecting them to resources for continued growth. We encourage parents/guardians of children under the age of five to complete a developmental screening every six months to help detect concerns early and support their child’s healthy development.

Many families face urgent needs that affect their children’s health, safety, and development. Some parents cannot afford basic baby care items like thermometers, cold packs, or baby wipes, which are essentials for safe caregiving and monitoring a child’s well-being. Others lack access to early developmental screenings that could make a lasting difference in their child’s future.

Your donation helps fill these gaps by funding baby essentials and expanding access to developmental screenings, giving more children in Solano County the strong start they deserve. When children thrive, our community thrives too.

How Your Donation Helps

Supporting families and children helps build a stronger community.

Expand Developmental Screenings: Help us reach more families across Solano County with developmental screenings at no cost to them. We offer flexible options to meet parents where they are. Early detection of developmental delays leads to early intervention and lifelong benefits.

Provide Baby Essentials: Help us fund baby essentials like thermometers, cold packs, baby wipes, and baby-safe care tools for families experiencing financial hardship.

With your support, we can give the children in our community a stronger start and give parents peace of mind.

A strong start is the best start. Help us make that possible for more children in our community.
