Keeping the Dream Alive

Founded in memory of Fairfield City Councilmember Matt Garcia, who was tragically killed at just 22 years old, the Matt Garcia Foundation carries forward his dream of building safer, stronger communities by empowering youth, reducing crime, and strengthening community.

One of our most impactful programs is the Homicide Survivors Support Group, led by facilitators Teresa Courtemanche (Matt’s mom) and Rita Edmonds-Norris (Chad’s mom), alongside a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. This group provides families impacted by violence with a safe, compassionate space to grieve, heal, and grow—offering trauma-informed curriculum, practical guidance through the justice system, and unique healing opportunities such as restorative sound baths and Smash Room sessions.

On October 1st, during Live Solano Give Solano, we aim to raise $5,000 to sustain this program and expand resources for survivors. Every dollar is an act of hope—helping families move from trauma to healing while keeping Matt’s legacy alive.
