For over 19 years, Girls on the Run North Bay has been transforming the lives of girls right here in Solano County. We've reached over 19,000 local participants, helping them develop into the confident, resilient leaders our community needs.
While our name suggests running, our after-school program goes much deeper. Girls on the Run provides essential mental health tools that help participants manage emotions, resolve conflicts, and build compassion—all while discovering the joy of movement. In today's challenging world, these skills are more critical than ever for our young people.
Our evidence-based curriculum, recognized by Harvard researchers, is delivered by trained volunteer coaches from our very own community. We intentionally keep groups small—just 15 girls maximum—ensuring every participant receives personalized attention in a safe, supportive environment where they can openly discuss mental health challenges. Every 8-week session builds to two meaningful milestones: girls create and execute a Community Project that makes a real difference in their neighborhoods, then celebrate alongside participants from across all three counties at our regional 5K event. These accomplishments showcase the remarkable growth in confidence, connection, and community spirit each girl has developed.
"The most important thing I learned at Girls on the Run is to sprinkle your star power around others who are feeling sad and cheer them up by saying you can do it, never give up on your dreams." - Solano participant, Spring 2025
What sets us apart is our deep connection to Solano County. Our coaches and partners understand the unique needs of our local communities, from Vallejo to Vacaville to Fairfield. This local knowledge, combined with nearly two decades of program experience, allows us to deliver a life-changing experience exactly where they're needed most.
Your support helps Solano County girls build the confidence and resilience to thrive. Every dollar you contribute helps us remove barriers and reach more Solano County girls with life-changing programming. Together, we can ensure that every girl in our community has the opportunity to discover her strength, build lasting friendships, and develop the tools she needs to thrive.
In 2024, we offered 80% financial assistance to our participants of Solano. The need is real!
Our mission is to inspire girls to be confident and resilient using a fun, inclusive, experience-based curriculum that creatively combines social, emotional, physical health integrating movement in a girls-only space. We want every girl, including those from under-resourced families, to know and activate her limitless potential to boldly pursue her dreams.
The Mental Health Crisis is Real Across Solano County, girls are facing unprecedented challenges. Recent studies show that 42% of high school girls experience persistent feelings of sadness, while anxiety and depression rates continue to climb. Our local schools report increasing incidents of social conflict, bullying, and emotional distress among young people.
The Gap in Our Community While Solano County has many youth programs, few specifically address the intersection of mental health, leadership development, and physical activity for girls. Traditional sports programs often focus solely on competition, while counseling services can have long wait times and limited availability. Girls on the Run fills this critical gap with prevention-focused community-centric programming that builds resilience before crisis hits.
Your donation can help in these ways:
