Supporting Homicide Survivors in Solano County

The loss of a loved one to homicide changes a family forever. Along with overwhelming grief, survivors may face court proceedings, financial hardship, unanswered questions, and the painful reality of learning how to live after a traumatic loss.

The Matt Garcia Foundation’s Homicide Survivors Support Group provides a safe and compassionate place where families can gather with others who truly understand. The group is facilitated by Teresa Courtemanche, mother of Matt Garcia, and Rita Edmonds-Norris, mother of Chad Edmonds, with the guidance of a Licensed Clinical Social Worker.

Families receive emotional support, trauma-informed guidance, help understanding the criminal justice process, healing activities, and practical resources created specifically for homicide survivors. Most importantly, they are reminded that they do not have to walk this journey alone.

On October 7, 2026, during Live Solano Give Solano, our goal is to raise $5,000 to help sustain and strengthen this vital program. Donations will support professional facilitation, survivor resources, educational materials, healing experiences, and other needs that help families move forward one day at a time.

Every gift—large or small—sends a powerful message to grieving families:

You are seen. You are supported. You are not alone.

Together, we can help transform isolation into connection, trauma into healing, and grief into hope—while continuing Matt’s dream of building a safer, stronger, and more compassionate community.

Please give on October 7 and help us stand beside families affected by homicide.
