Rooted in True Love, our Community Outreach Ministry shares God’s love through acts of service that nurture both soul and body—bringing hope, healing, and connection to those in need through the true love of Christ.
Our Story: Feeding Solano with Love
Our Community Outreach Ministry is built on the belief that everyone deserves dignity, care, and a helping hand in times of need. For years, True Love Baptist Church has opened its doors wide to welcome the community—feeding the hungry, providing warm clothing, and offering comfort to those experiencing hardship.
One of our most vital services is our Food Pantry—a place where individuals and families can count on a warm welcome, a caring smile, and groceries to help them through the week. In 2025 alone, we served hundreds of households and distributed over 150,000 pounds of food with respect and dignity.
But the reality is sobering: our ability to meet the growing demand is being hindered by limited food storage, refrigeration capacity, and distribution space. Without the ability to safely store fresh produce, dairy, and meats—or to keep an adequate supply of nonperishable goods—we must sometimes turn away food donations that could nourish hundreds of families. This is not about a lack of willingness, but a lack of capacity.
The Broader Context: Rising Need in a High-Poverty Area
The urgency of this project is amplified by alarming socioeconomic realities in our community:
- The poverty rate in our county rose from 12% to 15% in 2023—outpacing neighboring counties and the state average.
- Food insecurity among children increased by four percentage points from 2021 to 2022, signaling a growing hardship for families.
- Our church is situated in a designated poverty tract area, where the poverty rate is 19.1%—more than double the countywide average of 9.1%.
This geographic concentration of poverty underscores both the strategic importance of our location and the vital role our Food Pantry plays in meeting urgent needs.
The Impact: Limited by Space, Not by Heart
Despite these challenges, our Food Pantry—and the larger outreach ministry of our church—continues to serve over 10,000 residents each year. Through the dedication of our volunteers, we have distributed thousands of pounds of groceries, often supplemented with fresh produce when storage allows. We provide more than food—we offer hope, dignity, and a reminder that our community cares.
The Truth is Clear:
- The need is growing faster than our ability to meet it.
- The food is available, but our storage and distribution limitations keep us from receiving and giving more.
With expanded food storage, commercial refrigeration, and improved distribution space, we could feed hundreds more families each month and strengthen our ability to respond to emergency hunger needs.
This is not just about building capacity—it’s about honoring our commitment to ensure that no neighbor in Solano County goes hungry.
